In just 10 years, trade in bulk wine has doubled. In 2012, it totalled 74 million hectolitres, equivalent to half of overall trade (bottles and bulk) between producer and consumer countries. 28% of total output is sold in bulk, and this amount will continue to grow.
Environmental (carbon footprint) and economic (transport and taxation) constraints also promote the development of the bulk wine market, which could reach 90 million hectolitres by 2020.
